Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
At Currie Construction, health and safety is at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, healthy, and supportive working environment for our people, our partners, and the communities we work in. So everyone goes home safe, every day.
Health & Safety
Currie Construction is committed to the provision of a healthy and safe working environment and to the protection of our employees, subcontractors, clients, suppliers, visitors and the public.
Our goal is to achieve an accident-free workplace, and we are committed to being a leader in Gisborne through the consistent implementation of safe construction practices across our entire business.
Before any project begins, we carry out detailed risk assessments to identify hazards and establish clear, practical controls. On site, safety is embedded into daily operations through:
• Pre-start briefings
• Toolbox talks
• Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)
We use digital safety systems to manage site documentation, assess risk, and ensure SWMS are accessible, understood and followed. This enables effective risk management and clear communication across all projects.
We invest in training, supervision and refresher programmes and encourage open reporting of hazards and near misses as part of our commitment to continuous improvement.
Environment
Currie Construction recognises its moral and legal responsibility to protect the environment and minimise the impacts of our activities. We provide safe plant and systems of work designed to prevent pollution and reduce environmental harm.
This commitment extends to ensuring our operations do not place the local community at risk of injury, illness, property damage or environmental degradation. Environmental considerations are integrated into project planning, site management and decision-making.
Kaitiakitanga
Currie Construction acknowledges Māori perspectives on environment and sustainability, including the exercise of kaitiakitanga by tangata whenua.
We ensure appropriate protocols are in place to manage the accidental discovery of archaeological sites, kōiwi or taonga in accordance with the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014 and the Protected Objects Act 1975, working respectfully with relevant authorities and mana whenua.
Quality
Currie Construction is committed to delivering the highest possible standard of quality and reliability across all services we provide to the construction industry.
Through our ISO 9001 quality management system, we focus on continuous improvement, consistency and accountability, with the goal of meeting or exceeding our clients’ expectations on every project.
Our Commitment
Our commitment is simple and uncompromising:
whānau home safe, every day.
